Widespread Outages Due to Spring Blizzard:
Poudre Valley REA is experiencing widespread outages from a heavy, wet spring snow and blizzard conditions. PVREA expects members to experience a prolonged outage, possibly throughout the evening of March 23 and into tomorrow, March 24. We are urging members to be prepared; view tips below.
All PVREA crews are deployed working on all of the outages. We are urging members to report hazards and outages by calling 1-800-432-1012.
"With heavy, wet snow affecting power across our entire service area, all PVREA crews are deployed and working to repair lines and restore outages. We are urging members to stay safe during this storm, and report hazards and outages by calling PVREA at 1-800-432-1012. Thank you for your support and patience as our crews restore power to your neighborhood as quickly as possible," CEO Jeff Wadsworth said.

Members should prepare to remain inside during this prolonged outage and use these tips if you have lost power at your home:

Colorado is experiencing blizzard-like weather conditions with widespread power outages.
Currently Colorado is experiencing blizzard-like conditions on Wednesday, March 23. Approximately 108,000 customers throughout cities and communities in our Colorado territory are experiencing electric outages as of 10 am MT. A blizzard warning has been issued for Denver and areas to the east until 6 p.m. MT with strong, gusty winds up to 55 mph expected. We currently have crews working as quickly and safely as possible to assess each situation and formulate restoration plans as soon as they can reach the areas impacted by the storm.

If you experience a power outage, please report it on our website. You can also view outage information on this page, which is updated every 10 minutes. In addition, you can report an outage by calling 1-800-895-4999 and pressing 1; please remain on the line if you need to report an urgent issue.
Here are important safety reminders for customers during these conditions:
CDOT:
At this point it may be easier to list what is open vs. everything that is closed. So... just stay home. It's a mess out there. Passenger vehicle traction law in place throughout the region. All passenger vehicles must use adequate snow tires,chains,AWD/4WD or alternative traction devices. Cars are having difficulty getting traction (especially up hill) in this wet, slick snow.
Highway 34 at CR 69 - 11:00 AM
Power outages have caused issues with traffic lights. Additionally the snow is sticking to traffic lights and stop signs in some areas making it hard to navigate intersections.

- Stay inside, and dress warm. Staying warm is a priority. Dress in several layers of loose fitting, lightweight warm clothing. Wear hats, mittens and scarves.
- If you plan to use a generator, know how to operate it safely
- Close off unneeded rooms to keep the heat in your living areas.
- Keep your refrigerator and freezer closed as much as possible to keep your food cold. If power is out longer than 4 hours, keep perishable items in a cooler with ice. Make ice outside. A full freezer can remain cold enough for 48 hours, and half a freezer full 24 hours.
- When using an alternative heat source, follow operating instructions, use fire safeguards, and be sure to properly ventilate. Always keep a multipurpose, dry-chemical fire extinguisher nearby, and know how to use it.
- Place draft block at the bottom of doors to minimize cold drafts from entering the house.
- Keep a close eye on the temperature in your home. Infants and people over the age of 65 are often more susceptible to the cold. You may want to stay with friends or relatives or go to a shelter if you cannot keep your home warm.
- Unplug all appliances and electronics so they won't get damaged with power restoration.
- If power lines are on the ground, stay far away from them and warn others to stay away. Contact PVREA and let us know because the lines could still be live.
- Any power line that is dead could become energized at any moment due to power restoration or backup generators.
- Check on any elderly neighbors and make sure they are safe.
