MORE INFORMATION
The Whole Community Simulation Program is a fun, hands-on learning experience that helps educate and prepare the community to respond to and recover from a disaster.
Larimer County has dealt with a major fire in 2012 and a devastating flood in 2013 and learned that disasters involve the entire community. The Whole Community Simulation is a role-playing activity and is designed for people that do not generally get to participate in simulations and exercises.
Event Mission:
- Help participants make sense of the disaster response and recovery process.
- Provide an experience where participants make their own observations and then relate this new information to their lives.
We do this through a fun and creative role-playing activity. As a participant, you can play the part of:
- A disaster survivor: An individual or family directly impacted by the disaster.
- A spontaneous, unaffiliated volunteer: One of the great people that shows up to help.
- An agency representative: One of the government or non-profit agencies that works to help the community respond to and recover from natural and man-made events.
The simulation will have anywhere from 60 up to 250 participants, including actual representatives from the many agencies and organizations that are active in disasters. They will be present to help guide and educate us, but we as participants will do the real work!
